My first bronze sculpture will always be special to me. He is an ideal man, and it is no accident that he is the first expression of my creativity in modeling for bronze casting.
The opening paragraph of Ayn Rand's novel The Fountainhead was my inspiration, and so I also call this piece "Howard Roark Laughed." The dynamic potential of its hero is implied in his stance — viewed from one side he stands resolute and unmoved; from the other side, his body is drawn across a plane of motion. Standing Nude embodies a hero who is at peace in the world, and active in it.
