I was inspired to model a reclining figure by the line and form of the natural landscape, which evokes in me the emotion of wonder. Aristotle wrote that the pursuit of knowledge is fired by a sense of wonder. I chose the form of the reclining female figure to embody the act of intellectual reflection.
As an atheist, I chose the biblical subject of Eve as an opportunity to interpet the kind of woman I think Eve should have been. I wanted to present Eve as a sensuous female, reading from the book of knowledge, in the complete absence of sin, guilt or shame.
