Devotee: This statuette is one of several figures I've composed this year from the live model that celebrate the female form. The Devotee's gesture of attending to herself recalls motifs of before or after the bath. The gentle touching of her hands to her hair and breast signifying the toilette and projects a sense of calm self-regard. The toilette, or making ready for the bath, suggests preparation of the devotee for veneration. The object of worship is left undescribed, allowing the viewer to speculate that she is herself, or that some other could be, her object of devotion.
