About Lara Piper ~

Lara Piper

Lara Piper began sculpting in 1998 after retiring from a successful, twenty-year acting career. You may have seen her work on the television shows "Head of the Class" and "Key West," where she appeared as a series regular. She chose a sculpting career because she wanted to create from nothing rather than interpret another person's view of man. She wanted to show her view of man as noble, heroic, purposeful.

After many years of study in both Los Angeles and New York, Lara established her studio in Durham, North Carolina where she resides with her husband and young daughter. She began taking commissions in 2005 and is in the process of completing Pearly Gate for a client in San Francisco.

Sculpting the human form is her passion, and she continues to study anatomy and the human form in motion in order to capture the dynamic beauty and vitality of man in action. Lara believes that philosophy is the key to uderstanding man and his actions. Therefore, she considers not only the outward form that she is sculpting, but also the ideas and the metaphysical value judgements that her subject would hold. This manifests itself in her work by filling her idealized human forms with a life-like and fully integrated presence. Her works demand the viewer to take notice. Like the movie stars of the forties and fifties they fill the viewer with the sense that life should be grand-scale and beautiful.
